Whassup, bro's!
It's ironic how I can complete my "Where Praise Is..." series of postings and then almost immediately have to learn from them myself. If you haven't read it already then check them out because I'm sure you'll find them useful...
I've got a situation at the moment with my rent meaning I'm in arrears, sadly, which has recently led to me feeling in a bit of a funk, again. Combining this with my car battery being on its last legs has understandably shown that I, yes even I, can have off days!
Each time though, I've been chased throughout these past few days by the points outlined in this series, especially the latter, to be reminded that only what you let affect you can affect you.
I'll tell you this; I don't plan on being that way all the time because I plan on lending not borrowing as outlined in Deuteronomy 15:6: -
For the LORD your God will bless you as he has promised, and you will lend to many nations but will borrow from none. Deut 15:6 (NIV)
Even taking into consideration the context, the principle of this verse is completely valid because it highlights the plight of the needy and how if you can meet it financially then you are obliged to do so, no excuses!
Further down in verse 10 it says: -
Give generously to the poor, not grudgingly, for the Lord your God will bless you in everything you do. Deut 15:10-11 (NLT)
The very next verse says this problem will... not... go away, so an impetus then is on us to respond and either meet the need or look the other way like in the case of the good Samaritan.
You see? I'm setting my sights higher than I in order to be debt-free in the days ahead. This means that I can be the one doing the lending once more.
That is why I imply I'm building my future on "lending, not borrowing" to go with my philanthropic nature that just seems to get greater and greater every day of my life. I remember those days when I could lend to people and not necessarily hope to get it back, I want those days back because helping your fellow man, or woman, is boss! :)
I'm not massaging my ego, honestly I'm not, I'm just stating a fact that the reason I do what I do is not for praise nor favour off of man, but to gain favour in the eyes of God.
What about you, then? What's your passion, your driving force? Is it to get all that you can, whilst you can?
Or is it to be a positive influence on those around you? Because in doing that you'll find that the more of yourself you give, the more you give over to God to bless you back in kind & with added interest!
Watch this, from one of the greatest churches on the planet, you'll see what I mean. ;)
Peace out!
