Off the Scale #41 - Romance (from the Gadfly) by Dmitri Shostakovich

Hi everyone!

This is edition 41 of Off the Scale and today I'm going to be featuring a piece that I've heard Dutch violinist André Rieu play often in his concerts. I am of course talking about Dmitri Shostakovich's Romance from the Gadfly...

Romance - The Gadfly

I like this particular piece for its flowing rhythm and the way the violin weaves its way around the other instruments is a prime example of why I love classical music so very much.

In this piece I have chosen the simply effervescent Nicola Benedetti playing with the BBC Symphony Orchestra with Jiří Bělohlávek conducting. This particular arrangement is taken from the Last Night of the Proms in 2012 and comes at a time where my first interests in Rieu's music and compositions really took off.

Until next time...

Peace!
