2018 Review - In Words & Pictures

Hello everyone!

Well, this is it, after a year away from reviewing my highlights be they in media or otherwise, I am pleased to confirm that today it's back!

As always, I will be looking at my favourite film of the year, videogame of the year, along with a random TV highlight and a significant highlight that I've been impacted by. They won't necessarily, in the case of films or games, have been made this year but I have to give them a shout out nevertheless because they've made an impact upon me.

Are you ready to get started? Then let's go...

My Favourite Film - Aquaman

It was pretty open ended until this film came out, as by contrast, though there were many films I've watched, none made an impression upon me as highly as this did.

With all the possible films that I have watched over the course of the year, there was only ever going to be one winner. From quite early on I knew that this was not only a contender but was likely to take the title. There were many other contenders but none of them had laid a hand upon the, albeit meaningless, trophy I award every year.

My Favourite Video Game - Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Though I, admittedly, have not played a lot of this one, I knew from the moment that it started that this was a contender. I have been a fan of the franchise since it came out on the original Playstation.

For the sake of transparency, I don't get to buy many videogames so I have to make sure those that I do invest in can at least give me my money back. This one did within the first few moments of the epic opening cinematic.

My TV Moment of the Year - 13th Doctor Jodie Whittaker's Debut

After the anticipation over how a female would handle the coveted role of Doctor Who, the wait was finally over earlier this year and it resulted in this: -

I was highly impressed with her performance as she showed that, 2018 being the year of the woman, there are no roles that women should be excluded from, be they on TV shows or in the boardroom.

My Highlight of the Year - Sammy 'the Draw' Callihan vs. Jimmy 'England's Most Dangerous Man' Havoc's "Spin the Wheel Make the Deal" match on MLW Fusion

After diving into the independent wrestling scene a little bit more this year via YouTube, in particular, I wanted to shine a highlight on a promotion by the name of Major League Wrestling.

Their polished TV-style broadcast and storylines instantly hooked me as, whilst they might not have the roster of, say, WWE or Ring of Honor, they still have some major up and coming players to watch out for heading into 2019.

Final Thought

Well, this has certainly been an eventful year and, whilst it has come with its challenges for me on a personal level, I am glad to be reminded of some of the highlights I will be remembering going into 2019.

I hope that you have enjoyed this and I will see you in the new year.

until then...
