MotoGP:Valencia (Part Two) - A World Champion Is Crowned!

Welcome back to part two of my season ending review for the MotoGP!

Let's continue right from where I left off...

How the tide changed though, throughout this season as Marquez tore up record after record (some of which falling include the most consecutive number of poles scored in a season, along with the obvious one of first rookie since the great Kenny Roberts did so back in '75) on his way to a championship winning debut season in the top tier.

Following Marquez's success at the Honda Racing Team, let's go back to 2010 when he made his debut in Moto3 before winning that title, securing the Moto2 title in 2012 and winning the top tier, the MotoGP title in 2013... impressive stats, don't you think for a 20 year old rookie?!

He shows that in losing one great, Casey Stoner, Honda were savvy in their appointing of Marquez and originally it had all the signs of it being Pedrosa the master teaching the student, Marquez...

But as it's turned out Marquez has brought a unique style of touching special elbowpads to the kerbs when cornering (even though it's likely that others have tried this in the past, just not with as great a success as he's done so far!) along with his rather cavelier attitude (and by NO MEANS do I mean that in a bad way, because the bro's proved he's got what it takes!) towards cornering itself.

I have lost count of the many, many corners he's taken this year with his bike going into them horizontal (more akin to the 'drifting' style of the supercars!) yet still coming out the other side the right way up!

RIDER OF THE DAY

One final note to make, I think, before signing off on this sport for now... is who my 'Rider of the Day' and 'Rider of the Season' awards go to: -

Jorge Lorenzo

The first one's an obvious one really and it's got to be the race winner, Lorenzo. Now some may give me hate for this for not recognising Marquez's efforts today, but that's not why I haven't picked him. The reason I have gone for Lorenzo today is because of the way he tried a strategy, to back and back the pack up so that the likes of Marquez and Pedrosa were someone else's problem showed that he knew what was at stake and a savvy nature like that deserves recognition.

Secondly, when he saw that wasn't working (even though the likes of Bautista and Rossi were staying close to the front three for longer into the race distance this time, he took off like the proverbial scalded cat as if to say, like Steve Parrish commented "come on and race me, see if you can't fall off instead!". Unfortunately for Lorenzo, that tactic didn't work as, though Pedrosa got the better of Marquez, it was all down to Marquez's sound mind and equally sound body keeping the bike under control (even if he did go squirrel-y on so, so many occasions during the race!) to secure a 3rd placed position and thus the title by 4 points!

RIDER OF THE SEASON

Rider of the season, however, has to go to the rookie (who incidentally takes home the 'Rider of the Season' & 'Rookie of the Season' making it a double header) that brought a new and more exciting race style to watch to the top tier of motorcycle racing:-

Marc Marquez.

Hopefully I've put my case across eloquently enough for you to see why I've gone for whom I've gone for... even though he was tied with Lorenzo on 6 'R.o.t.D.' trophies!

Either way, it's been wonderful to have reviewed and witnessed the greatness that was the likes of Lorenzo, Pedrosa and 2013 World Champion Marc Marquez battling away at some of the most iconic race calendars, even going to so far as to promote the new MotoGP '13 videogame which I'll have to secure at some point.

One sport down, two left this season, bro's!

Peace out!
