It's my birthday today!
This week's piece is one I heard a couple of weeks back and was instantly taken back to the moment in time when I first heard well known tenor Russell Watson perform it some years earlier. Simply hypnotic.

This particular piece has been done many ways, from full on choral arrangement to operatic style and each time I hear it, I am reminded of what gradually introduced me to opera and allowed me to appreciate it in its own right.
This particular arrangement comes from the Red Army Choir's live performance in Paris in December of 2003.
Who knows? Maybe I'll introduce a new series celebrating opera, or I'll just off-shoot it into a series within Off the Scale.
We shall see...
