Stuey's Awards 2019

Hello everyone!

It's that time of year again where I look back on this year's highlights in terms of films I have watched, games that I have bought and my TV highlight. As always, apart from the TV highlight, there will be some entries that haven't necessarily been released this year. But that is just how I roll in terms of these highlights.

It's nearly Christmas time, so let's get these awards underway...

2019 Awards - Film of the Year

BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN Spoilerish Story Rumors Surface ...
This particular film may come as a surprise to some, especially as it received fairly mixed reviews upon release. Yet, despite missing out on all of the negativity and confusion, picking this on up on DVD earlier this year was a pleasant surprise as I ended up enjoying it so much that it kind of snuck in and ended up convincing me that it was indeed worthy of the title of the best film that I have seen this year.

For it's elongated running time, unlike some of the pretentious Marvel films (Avengers Assemble & Captain America: Civil War, I'm looking at you!) I've seen, it never really dragged in the slightest for me and held my interest throughout. Though the storyline is something that would take multiple viewings, probably, to fully unpack on my blog, it still won hands down over all the other films I've seen this year (the Joker's questionable, out-of-place, performance aside). If you have a long running time, you have to warrant it, you just have to!

2019 Awards - Game of the Year

I'm going back through the archives with this one, all the way to February 25 2003. Purely for the simple reason that my netbook is best kept away from the latest games as it cannot run them.

MasterOfOrion3Box.jpgYou give me a good real time strategy game, or as in this case a good turn-based strategy game, and I'm happy. Though, this one is not for the faint-hearted as there is an awful lot of reading to do during gameplay in order to grapple with the gameplay mechanics. At some point I'll have to cover in detail a review of this title. Needless to say, it's easily the best game that I have bought and played this year.

It might not be graphically impressive to some, but as you know by now, I am of the mindset that great graphics, a good game do not make.

2019 Awards - TV Highlight

There was a lot at stake for this match, after several weeks of meddling in other wrestlers' affairs, Promociones Dorado's own empressario Salina De La Renta had another chance to direct an episode of Major League Wrestling, meaning she could, again pick the matches.

Given that Warner and Callihan were too busy fighting one another for supremacy on the mid-card, Salina took it upon herself to use her directorial role to orchestrate a match whereby the loser would be confined to the exit door of MLW and would have to find somewhere else to wrestle.

In picking these highlights, I like to use them as a chance to showcase some alternative online content that would otherwise get overlooked without mass exposure a la WWE and now AEW. As much as I wanted to put AEW Dynamite's opening episode in here, I couldn't get past the sheer brutality of this particular main even that saw chairs, garbage cans and even a stapler come into play!

Conclusion

I hope you enjoyed my look back at this year's personal highlights and I look forward to seeing what 2020 will bring and how much further AEW will inevitably grow with the likes of the Young Bucks, Cody & Dustin Rhodes, MJF & of course Chris "a little bit o' the bubbly" Jericho in the roster.

What a fine time to be a professional wrestling fan and what a fine time to be alive folks!

Here's to 2020 being even more awesome than 2019!
