VE Day @ 70: Never Let Us Forget

Good morning!

On this, a day for celebrating what was decided 70 years ago today, let us never forget those who have gone before us, lest we fail to be reminded what they did for us.

I've composed a little poem to mark the occasion: -

Seventy years ago today, the war was won,
Seventy years ago today, new dawn had begun,
From the battlefield to the graves; so many lives have been saved,
Yet not before many more had to be gone.
Bullets rang and voices sang, a new day's pain beheld,
Bullets rang and voices sang, grief was never to be held,
Dying voices all around, many lives were never found,
As bombs took them away from this living hell!
In living die and in dying live, men ran out the trenches,
In living die and in dying live, many voices cracked the ledges,
Of sanity in minds affray, of sanity leaves disarray,
Lives snuffed out, many before the sandy beaches.
Let us celebrate today, the freedoms we now have,
Let us celebrate this day, the way we walk this path,
Cemeteries lie full today, never let us forget our way,
Yet not before too many lives have passed.
Never let us forget, bro's, never let us forget.
