On the seventh day God had finished His work of creation, so He rested from all His work. Genesis 2:2 (NLT) emphasis added
Hello everyone and welcome to the final part in my epic eight part devotional looking at the account of creation!
I hope you've all got something out this because I've had a ton of fun recording this, even doing so well as to get far enough ahead that I'd already pretty much recorded the whole series before the first part had even gone live!
But that's the price I pay for finding such good form, huh?
Rest? Not on the Clock Please!
For many industries they do not get the luxury of having a day of rest (such as retail, emergency services, the military etc) and instead are mandated to carry on working as though Sunday was a day like the other six in the week.
I remember a time not so long ago when I was on the Work Training Programme and I told the boss lady, Emma, that I categorically was not prepared to work on a Sunday because I attend church and that is of a great priority to me.
You should have seen the look on her face, bro's!
It was as though I was saying something sacreligious!
But it's true... I did it once, worked on a Sunday for a well known pizza manufacturer (Domino's, but that's another story I can tell another time, if I haven't already!) and I wouldn't do it again, not knowing I'm away from my church!
Yes, alright, I admit it!
My attendance is still a little on the sporadic side, but I categorically state that my friend is out of line in implying that I should be there for all three services all the time; there is no written rule that states that I have to be (ED - come now, that is completely the wrong attitude to have, TLP! You only live once, so live it well with the people around you!)!
God, in resting from His creation got a chance to sit back, relax and look at what His words had said and His hands had made, and behold, it was all good!
God then set apart this day as sanctified and that is why I told Emma that I was not prepared to work on a Sunday... uncooperative, or not flexible be DAMNED!!!
There are, clearly, some industries then, that I am not meant to work in, but also it shows that I have my priorities where I want them and that is namely to be a regular part of a church.
I know that, thanks to Steven Furtick's ministry that I have linked to time and again on here, I don't need to feel like I bring something to my church in order to belong, I just need to bring myself!
That is an eye-opener and, obvious as it might be to some, it is a lesson that my struggle with depression has managed to warp over these past few months.
For anyone who has struggled with it in the past or present, you will know that it can seem at times like the very fabric of reality is altering as your condition tricks you into thinking that things are not what they are, or are what they are not.
When God Saw That it Was Good
When God said that each stage was good, He was clearly identifying one of His main characteristics: -
You are good and do only good. Psalm 119:68 (NLT)
I'm sorry, let me put that again in case you missed it the first time around: -
You are good and do only good.
Did you catch that? "...only good" or in other words God cannot and will not do bad!
But what about all the bad in the world?
"Man" and "choices" are what I come back with!
It is not always that God allows these things to happen, it is a case of man being his wicked, horrific self acting out judgement upon his fellow man.
Yes. God could intervene.
Why doesn't He sometimes? You ask.
I don't know.
If I knew the answer to that kind of level of question, I would be a lot further along in my own personal walk, of that I can assure you.
Just know that, from the very beginning, God wanted only good for His creation and because wickedness showed up through Satan, God being a just God, He could not let it go unpunished!
Final Thought
Bringing this whole series to a close then, I hope you have all got something from each week's video and accompanying posting because I've got another series coming up in the near future, but I won't say anymore just yet.
A trailer might make it's way to the end of one of my broadcasts, so keep an eye out for that! ;-)
Until next time...
Watch the skies!
