Wow!
I didn't think I had it in me; a four part review, bro's!
Let's pick up the closing stages of the race, shall we...?
With Ricciardo still garnering attention now that his switch to Red Bull Racing next season is confirmed, he was unfortunate to have his race ended in tenth position, what would have been a solitary point for him and his Toro Rosso team. One lap, that's all he needed to complete, one... solitary... lap, bro's!
By this time, Hamilton, having given up on fourth was being chased down by Alonso and were this race, say, another half-dozen laps longer, he would probably have caught him, but as it was, fifth was where he would finish.
So, as the chequered flag came down, Sebastian Vettel broke the record that currently stood at 'no driver had won the Korean GP having qualified on pole'... what a surprise!!!
Despite his protestations of being unable to race Kimi Räikkönen, Grosjean was left languishing behind him in third place, making up an all-too-familiar podium.
DRIVER OF THE DAY
Onto Driver of the Day and it is none other than...
Nico Hulkenberg
Having stuck by his team now ever since they took a chance upon him, he has shown that he has the mettle to be a top, top racing driver. Despite narrowly missing out on the vacant Red Bull team, another one in the guise of Lotus, look ready to knock down his door just to get him for next season.
He showed great promise today and therefore is my Driver of the Day having been tenacious enough to see off Lewis Hamilton, keeping the arguably more experienced driver at bay rather effortlessly (again a term I use loosely as 'effortless' is by no means what it is to be a fully qualified F1 driver!).
He has now topped his team's best ever result proving that they are on the up and would now be, by rights, best setting their sights on the better teams as the ones to beat as long as they can keep the pace going into Suzuka.
So... with Vettel now having a 77 point lead over his nearest rival, I bet on him bringing home the title for Red Bull providing a favourable result is earned by Alonso finishing eighth or lower (which is the only variable that could affect whether Vettel does it next or not) this weekend.
Let's see if the prediction holds true or whether another driver's fortunes change for the better to spoil the party for another weekend!
Champagne on ice anyone?
