Dis/Obey - The Price For Doing What You're Told

Hi everyone!

I've left this one intentionally a little bit late because I wanted some extra time to prepare the content. Although, to be honest, prepare is only a loose term when it comes to writing these because in actual fact I'm just pushing keys on my laptop hoping that what comes out makes sense.

All the while trying to overcome my intense shyness around a certain person, which doesn't seem to be getting any easier, by the way...

Twins - Borne to be Wild?

To keep on point so I'm not drifting off into another personal update, let's take a look at scripture: -
Jacob: All right, trade me your birthright for it!
Esau: When a man is dying of starvation, what good is his birthright?
Jacob: Well then, vow to God that it is mine.
Genesis 25:31-33a (TLB)

Selling a birthright for food? Is that bold or is that reckless?

Let me give you some context though first.

Earlier, before they were born, Isaac had pleaded with God to give Rebekah, his wife, a child as they had been married for many years.

God didn't just provide one child, she became pregnant with twins!

Imagine that if you are Rebekah... your hubby asks God for a child & He gives you two; if nothing else, that is a reason to blame Isaac for asking in the first place!

Instead, realising that the two seemed to be at war in her very womb, she decided to inquire of God.

What a powerful response that is; to inquire of God!

Inquire First, Act Second

That effectively gets my seal of approval straight away because here Rebekah is in the process of holding her children in the womb, yet the moment something is awry, or amiss, she brings God into the equation!

That's the first step you should do if you are facing any difficult decision today; bring God into it!

Take me for instance, I simply have to bring God into my jobsearch situation if an opportunity comes up that could potentially see me moving to Maastricht in Holland; it's a biiiig move!

So, Rebekah has sought God's council & what has He said in verse 23?: -
"The sons in your womb shall become two rival nations. One will be stronger than the other; and the older shall be a servant of the younger!"
"...the older shall be a servant of the younger..." - That'd be tough words for anyone to hear, wouldn't it?!

Let's fast forward now to the point where they're born three verses later and Jacob was born "with his hand on Esau's heel".

They're born, they grow up with one, Esau, becoming a hunter & the other preferring to stay at home.

Next time, I'm going to look some more into this whole "disobedience" thing because, in the case of Jacob & Esau's rivalry, you could see how it's an issue that's as deadly a trap as they come if we're not careful.

Watch the skies!
