Hello everyone and welcome to the next edition of Off the Scale!
Now that the series is finding its feet, I hope that you are enjoying listening to, or revisiting, some of the finest classical pieces that have been written over the centuries. I've got plans to expand this series well into the year so even though we are still in the infancy of this series, expect it to be around for a long time to come.
Today, it's the turn of Ralph Vaughan Williams, again, and his English Folk Song Suite...
The English Folk Song Suite by Ralph Vaughan Williams
This particular piece I first heard a few years ago on Classic FM and, though I could never remember its name until recently, further cemented my appreciation for Vaughn Williams'. His efforts to capture the quintessential British sound has already seen me celebrate my all-time favourite piece; the Lark Ascending.
This time, I wanted to take a firm stance on one of the many reasons why I am proud to be English, not just British: -
Listening to the rousing melodies that Williams' managed to capture in his music has made me realise over time that my birthplace also holds such a great history in classical music as well as the other nations that have produced the likes of Tchaikovsky, Mozart, Beethoven and Shostakovich.
In the coming weeks I'll be looking to celebrate some more of Britain's finest composers as well as continuing to delve into the archives of some of my other favourite pieces of music.
Until next time...
Peace!
