Christmas Festivities

Hello everyone!

As it has become apparent now, I have decided to put myself on exile from social media for a third time as, yet again, I found it getting in the way of my walk with God.

Instead, I wanted to take a quick look at what Christmas means to me...

BSB:Assen - Lowes Up & Down

My goodness!

That was a race reminiscent of the closing stages of the 2012 season with overtakes galore and incidents, some of which shocking, proving that BSB is just as exciting as ever!

Even though the season has pretty much finished now and that this doesn't just come in late, but waaay late, I'm still gonna do my best to cover the talking points from this one, so here goes...

Gettin' Busy Wit' It...

Whassup bro's & gals!

This is just a quick update to let you all know that though the Japanese GP and MotoGP:Sepang events take place in a matter of hours, I will be endeavouring to watch them and review them in due course, but they will not be any time within the next two to three days.

I will say, though, that if you are looking for a rapid turnover for reviews of these events then I'm afraid you're tough out of luck atm, because things are just waaay too hectic in my schedule to reliably inform you that I'll be either: -

  • Watching them live (they over lap as BBC1's coverage starts from 6:00am UK time for the F1 and then 8:25am over on BBC2 for the MotoGP trip to Sepang); or
  • Reviewing them within the next 24-48 hours
The reason that I update you as such, is that I want you not to be expecting them within the next, say 72 hours at the least (unless I have a rapid brainwave and decide to have a sporting megathon on Monday).

I've not even celebrated my 100th post and as I stand at currently 115... that's a bit disappointing! :(

It could be more, could be less as I'm trying to get through a massive backlog of sporting action from the FIA GT Series, the British GT Championship, the latest couple of rounds of SBK along with some others I may have forgotten about.

I realise that I'm behind on my BSB reviews as well and as I write this I am fully aware that the Silverstone event of the Showdown has already taken place recently. If you wanna know what happened, you know where to go... but you won't get it in my inimitable style, that's for true!

I only ask for patience as I balance my time between church later on today, The Idea (of which I am mostly pleased about!) and a ton of other stuff I'm sorting through at the moment.

Thank you,

The Lanky Penguin

BSB:Donington Park Part Two - Countdown to Showdown!

Righty folks, let's pick up the action where we left off...

BSB:Donington Park Part One - Countdown To Showdown!

So, it really is last chance saloon now, peeps, for the riders of the British Superbike Championship to book their places in the Showdown in a fortnight's time in Assen at the legendary TT circuit.

For now though, it was off to Donington Park and the final two races to do just that; get the points needed to secure a top six position. The favourites so far have to be considered as one of either the Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki of Shane 'Shakey' Byrne, the Samsung Honda of Alex Lowes or the Tyco Suzuki of Josh Brookes.

Other contenders looking to confirm their spot, the aforementioned three already having done that prior to this event, are James Ellison, Ryuichi Kiyonari & then one from either Jon Kirkham, James Westmoreland (Westie as I'll be calling him, like so many others do, in this review!) or Tommy Bridewell who languishes 25 points back from making the cut.

Kirkham it is who currently holds that illustrious sixth spot in the Showdown ahead of his team-mate, Westmoreland and the pair of them seemed positive in the 'Grill the Grid' section of ITV4's broadcast that no matter who out of the two of them finished there, the rest of the team would still provide the support... now that is teamwork, bro's!

Onto qualifying...

BSB:Cadwell Park - Titan-ed Up At The Top

Well, this was certainly a race to behold that had twists and turns aplenty for the Showdown, what a clash of the titans this is proving to be!

With the trio of Shane 'Shakey' Byrne, Alex Lowes & Josh Brookes all battling for podium credits to maximise their impact come Showdown time, the race at Cadwell Park would be one that was anyone's guess on who'd come away with maximum points and therefore maximum credits...

BSB:Oulton Park - One Ell' of a Showdown to Come!

Wow!

With the first of the BSB season's triple-headers now out of the way, I'm left exhilerated and excited for the upcoming Showdown and this was the first chance to see who out of the main contenders would be getting their qualification for said Showdown in early, and who would be forced to wait until the last minute...

BSB:Brands Hatch GP - Brookes & Shakey, Some Kind of Magic...

Well, what more can I say except a mixed bag of fortunes that was!

Crashes once more there were, along with moments to remember as Josh Brookes finally nailed down his first win this year...

BSB:Snetterton - Lowes & Shakey Do It Again

Whassup peeps!

Well, as I'm closing in one my 1,000th viewer of this blog, it brings me great pleasure to give you yet more insight into the latest round of the British Superbike Championship that took place over the weekend of the 5th to the 7th of July at Snetterton in Norfolk...

BSB: Knockhill - Kiyo's Back!

What a fantastic couple of races that was!

After anxiously awaiting the return of the British Superbike Championship (honestly, I cannot tell you how many times I checked the website to see when the guys were due to arrive at Knockhill, lol!), I was left wondering how many more twists and turns there may be as things progress ever onwards towards the Showdown.

It turned out that these races were what the word 'eventful' was made for, because there were people dropping bikes galore in this race (much reminiscent as it was of the MotoGP trip to the Catalunya circuit last weekend!). It also saw the return of Dan Linfoot, who you'll remember crashed out in quite spectacular style earlier this season.

Whilst it was a day to forget for some, for others it would definitely be a day to remember...

BSB: Oulton Park - "Shakey" Shakey & "Awesome" Alex!

Well, I must say that I did not see that coming!

Having finally watched the British Superbike Championship race from Oulton Park in Cheshire that took place over the recent bank holiday weekend, I can now comment on this and review the action accordingly...

MotoGP: Sold Out By the BBC...

Whassup bro's!

Upon hearing the unsurprising news that, once again, the BBC has lost out on full live coverage of a major sporting series of events I am left with a distinct sense of deja vu!

F1 anyone? Golf anyone? Haven't got the balls to pay the premium to keep a sport for once, anyone? Nah, of course it's all about cost-cutting wherever they can... recession dontcha know?! PAH! Sucks to be you!

Ha, it's at that stage now where it's a surprise when they do keep hold of a sport! I predicted this once F1 went and now it's happened I shall be activating my predictor again...

BSB:Thruxton - Shakey the Record Breaker!

What an entertaining couple of races that was!

To see Shane 'Shakey' Byrne in with a shout at becoming the most successful British Superbike rider in history was something I thought was inevitable, given his tenacity to run into the face of danger (come on, bro's, on two wheels cornering at a ridiculous lean angle is not dangerous?!).

Needless to say I was fully confident that he could eclipse the target of 43 race wins going in just one shy and it didn't take him long to put forth his case...

British Superbikes: Brands Hatch Indy - Shake & Bake!

Last week saw the launch of the 2013 British Superbike Championship and, being an avid follower of this for the past few years now, I figured it time I get my proverbial helmet on and digest what happened in the season opener at the Brands Hatch Indy Circuit.

Being an avid fan of current world champion Shane 'Shakey' Byrne, I thought this would be a test to see if he could start as he finished last season...

Motoriffic Thoughts...

Hey bro's!

Given that I said in my last entry about making it quick and then going on to ramble about what was really grinding my gears, I figured this time I'd correct that by stating my thoughts, as clearly and as concisely as possible, for the new F1 & MotoGP seasons.
