Hello and welcome to another post in my Off the Scale series!
This time we're going to be looking at one of my favourite duets in opera; the Pearl Fisher's Duet.
The first time I heard this was probably in the run up to Christmas last year and this past year have managed to hear it interpreted by Welsh operatic star Bryn Terfel, along with Andrea Bocelli...
A Duet to Live & Die For
This piece, when arranged as well as it is between the aforementioned two manages to ring so true, so clear and so pleasant to the ears as the tone of two voices (whether soprano, tenor or otherwise) don't collide, they blend.
This is the true value of singing together; you are creating one voice and, speaking from experience, the moments where you go out of tune truly do sound horrendously (which is something those talent shows could do with remembering) amplified and exaggerated.
Let's have a listen: -
Do you see what I mean? The way one voice perfects the upper range and the other skitters about the lower range fuses and blends the whole sound together to create one voice.
Again, it is music like this, as I've been saying over the last few weeks, that doesn't just perform itself, it forces me, the listener, to stop, take stock and remember that everything is only temporal on this Earth.
No matter the situation you find yourself in, get yourself hold of a copy of this and you won't be disappointed!
Peace... and duct-tape!
