7-0???
Well, I would say I cannot believe my eyes nor my ears, but seeing as the truth was inevitably written last Tuesday when Bayern Munchen systematically took apart Barcelona imo.
To see these two giants of football lock horns had promised to be a mouth-watering tie for those of us neutrals having witnessed our own teams' demise in the Champions' League (though I'll admit that being beaten over two legs by tonight's victors was certainly an entertaining fair, especially as we inflicted on them a rare defeat!)...
"Oh how you mighty have fallen!" I cried watching the likes of Thomas Muller (you'll have to excuse me, as I cannot get these accented characters into this blog so far as I can tell!) tear apart one of my favourite Spanish teams (the other, unsurprisingly, being the team that makes up El Clasico every year, Real Madrid!) and over two legs make consistent mugs out of them (no offence meant, but Barca were outclassed over 180 minutes and that is no joke!).
Seeing how the last time Barcelona were defeated without scoring a single goal over two legs was in 2008 when Manchester United went onto contest, and beat Chelsea in an enthralling tie in Moscow (though that night I was at a Black Keys gig so could only go off what the papers were saying the morning after), I figured that this signals a changing of the guard in European football.
Why would I say that?
Come on, we've seen two German teams get to the final this year and deservedly so (even if last night's Real vs. Dortmund tie was a cracker when the former lit the fire up their ar$es with elimination pending!) it means that, come May 25th, I know where I'll be on the night that a German team makes the grade as champions of Europe once again, the last time being, of course, Bayern in 2001 against Valencia at the San Siro (a match that I too watched when I was heavily interested in creating Fantasy Football leagues of my own, a sad fact to admit, lolz!).
But who would I tip?
I'm going to err on the side of caution here and say that, though Bayern for some would be clear favourites, I would just ask 'are you really willing to ignore Messrs. Lewandowski, Gotze (in his final match against Munich before he makes his transition to the capital) etc...?'
I'll let you be the judges on that one and decide whether 'it's a no from me' or not, is the order of the day.
Ta-ta for now, peeps!
