MotoGP:Spain - Ped-al to the Metal

Well, that certainly was an entertaining 27 laps of one of my all-time favourite MotoGP circuits; Jerez in Spain where Dani Pedrosa took an impressive victory and some might say, as the song goes, that this is his charge to the championship igniting well and truly now!

Seeing the tussle between the bro's from the sharp to the blunt end of the grid, gave me a distinct reminder why I enjoy this championship so much. Now, a lot of people are going to be focusing on that incident with Marc Marquez and Jorge Lorenzo on the final corner of the final lap as the latter was outmuscled by the former to the second step on the podium...

You want my opinion (what's that? you don't? Well it is my blog, lol, so you're getting it anyways!)? I thought it was a tough racing manoeuvre to think that he could get away with it, but there was a gap and he stuffed it down the inside only to be unable to get the bike stopped in time for Lorenzo to turn in safely. So a racing incident I classify this then.

Why? Simply because there is no arguing that the gap was there and yes Marquez did stuff his bike like the proverbial finger in the eye of protocol harshly, it is to be expected that all the riders on that grid will do whatever it takes to win (or failing that, finish as high up as they can on the roster, I know I would!). Though for a fact I do think it may be wise to have a quiet word with him, just to remind him of said etiquette because at the business end of the season that could have been a catastrophe.

Elsewhere along the grid, I think that special mention has to be made of Michele Pirro who, riding the Ducati that both Nicky Hayden and one of my favourite Italians, Andrea Dovizioso will have been testing since Jerez at the same circuit on Monday looked impressive whilst riding the proverbial wheels off that damn thing even if his race result was a lowly 16th place finish. He's gonna be one to watch, of that I'm sure in due course!

With that being said, however, it's time for me to pick my rider of the day and once again I'm not going for a race winner (does that surprise you given my review history on this blog?).

Aleix Espargaro

This guy is a fantastic talent and he is truly showing what a difference the rule changes have made with regards to the development of the CRT machines compared with the factory bikes. I think it is a sign of things to come when one of these guys, the leader of the CRT championship, can lock down an impressive 10th position and show consistency on a race-by-race basis, so expect to see more from Espargaro, no doubt he may even be racing his brother at some point too in the not-too-distant future!

Next time out, the bikers travel a short trip to France to race round the impressive Le Mans circuit, so let's see how that unfolds shall we, bro's?

Peace out!
