F1:Monaco - No More Drama? Ha, Yeah Right!

So, this weekend's race in the province of Monaco was one of first's as not only did we see the first safety car period of the year, but also we saw after several attempts this season, Nico Rosberg managing to lock out the front position of the grid to give Mercedes their maiden win of the 2013 season...

It is often said that qualifying on pole position for this race is 70% of the work done to bringing the car home in first place, but this was one race victory that did not come easily for Mercedes. Whilst tyre strategies were not as paramount as in previous races, it took a few minor miracles for them to come home first and fourth.

I'm gonna have a crack at covering as many incidents as I can on this blog, simply because you bro's are worth the effort, even if it is the early hours of Wednesday GMT when I write this!

I admit that I wasn't going to at first, but then I remembered I ain't a part-time blogger who can't be ar$3d with the details!

I'll even lay down my plans for the future of this blog for you all to see in due course, mainly for accountability's sake, but that's for another post.

I think the big one to look at first was the incident which briefly brought the race to a halt as Max Chilton and Pastor Maldonado collided resulting in the latter hitting the safety barriers with such force that they broke from their mountings and were temporarily left in a horseshoe shape until the marshals could restore normality. Maldonado has since insisted that he is fine from said crash and hopefully we'll see him next time out in Canada in two weeks.

Seeing the prompt nature of those red flags was certainly a relief to see as the race stewards wasted little time in ensuring that driver safety was proven paramount whilst they restored the barriers.

Mention also goes to Romain Grosjean who looked like he was having a decent enough race (though admittedly below even his standards) until a collision with Daniel Ricciardo means he will start no higher than 11th at Canada as he's since been hit with a 10 place grid penalty.

What about 'the Iceman'? After an incident involving Sergio Perez left him fuming enough that he 'should be punched in the face', do you think that's going a little too far? Or is it more regrettable comments said in the heat of the moment because Perez did after all collide with the Fin?

Felipe Massa was another bro' who was desperately unlucky this weekend as his race crash practically mirrored his practice crash that has now been ruled as a suspension failure and not a 'driver error' as was first thought. This is one guy I always like to see up near the sharp end of the grid, so to have an end come to a race like this is disappointing to say the least.

Well, if you want to see a recap (and believe me there are incidents galore, bro's!), catch the highlights on BBC's iplayer facility, bro's!

Trust me, it's 1hr 30mins you won't regret!

So I guess it's onto Driver of the Day then and unsurprisingly I've gone for...

Nico Rosberg

This has been a long time coming, bro's, a Mercedes driver starting on pole position and to be honest, he never really looked threatened and thanks to his pit stop strategy, it meant he was able to hold off the Red Bull's of Seb Vettel and Mark Webber.

He had been holding off Lewis Hamilton as well, until an unfortunate extra pit stop meant he dropped back from 2nd to behind the R.B.R. cars in 4th, leaving him still without a win to his name so far this season.

Next time out, it's Canada and who can forget two years ago when the rain made what should have been a two hour race, almost a four hour one!

Peace out, bro's!
