Okay, let's get this started then, shall we?
I said recently I was going to conduct a little experiment on music and how it affects our mood, so here goes...
It all started when I got to thinking recently how what we listen to can directly affect our daily output, or how we live our lives. You can think of the saddest song that you know, the happiest one, it doesn't really matter, just knowing that it can elevate your mood or alleviate your symptoms is enough to change your perception of music as a mood altering drug (ED - that is, for want of a better phrase of course!), so let's see what comes out, shall we?
Let me start off with the title to today's posting "You Get What You Give" by the New Radicals: -
First question; how does it make you feel?
Me? Happy, definitely happy. For a number of reasons.
- it reminds me when the charts were actually worth a damn; and
- it keeps reminding me that as long as I have "the music" in me, then the sky's really the limit!
There's a line "this world is gonna pull through", that reminds me no matter what I face, this world will just keep on turning and so it won't stop on my behalf. So why let a problem define your state of happiness?
Next up is one that'll have to be added with a cautionary note and it is "Wounded" by Good Charlotte, so listen with great care as it will exacerbate your sour mood if you haven't already got one!: -
So? Was I right? Does it make you question your current life state or what?
It's like the song was written as a brutal outpouring of emotions towards someone, even though it is not their fault what's happened, as if to try and see if they will understand what the person's going through. This is a stage I'm sure we've all been at in life at some point.
Take me recently, I'm sure I've already linked to this one once before, that is why I've linked it again because I like how raw it sounds in capturing the suffering one person goes through as they try to seek help from someone.
Right, that's enough depressing thoughts for now, I'm supposed to be conducting this experiment responsibly, so here's a third song and it is one of my all time favourites: -
This one? This one makes me feel so totally chilled out that nothing matters anymore, nothing of any significance can hold significance when held up against a song like this.
I like to use JT's cd "The 20/20 Experience" when it's bath-time Friday. Why? Because it's full of up beat tunes I can get high to, proverbially of course, as well as the slower one's as resembled by this one.
So, I've gone up, I've gone down and now I'm chilled out. What next?
How about this one? Spineshank's...
Um, on second thoughts, maybe that's not a good way to wind up this post (ED - you'd have understood if you'd have known which song he was going to choose, lol!), so instead I'll leave that there and ask you to pick your three favourite tunes and go listen to them, seriously, go listen to them... you may just feel better for it!
Until next time.
Peace off!
