Outfitting A Solution God's Way

"Cut the cord, are we human, or are we dancers?
My sign is vital, my hands are cold,
And I'm on my knees looking for the answer;
Are we human? Or are we dancer?"
'Human' by The Killers

Hello everyone!

I must admit that I'm feeling completely vulnerable right now.

Ever since I started being open and up front about what having a crush was doing to me both on here and to my closest friends, it's taken me in directions I never expected to go in.

All I was trying to do was to show you that even I have issues that I'm dealing with, so if anybody tells you that you're not perfect, just say "I know, but I'm dealing with it".

This week, I want to take quite a daring look at what having our own expectations can do to the life we are living.

An Unexpected Solution to An Expected Problem

In this week's "60 Seconds" I referenced Saul bringing his own armour to the table that would be expected to be used by David to defeat the humongous giant; Goliath.

In Saul's mind, he thought that the only realistic way that David, a lowly shepherd boy, could be able to defeat the giant that was calling them out every morning, would be to wear the same style outfits that he and his men wore.

There was one problem with that, God clearly had other ideas.
David told Saul, “I can’t even move with all this stuff on me. I'm not used to this.” And he took it all off. 1 Samuel 17:39 (MSG)
Do you see that, right there?

David was willing to admit that what he was wearing was something that, not only was it something he was not used to, it was something he was ill equipped to make full use of.

Think about it.

David was used to having next to no protection because apart from his bare hands, a slingshot and some stones, he needed nothing more as a shepherd!

Yet here was Saul, trying to outfit him with a solution that he had come up with, but one that wasn't right for what David was about to do. It is at this point that I could share a little bit more of my own testimony, just as I have been doing, but I want to follow this a bit further before I do any of that.

A Better Idea

What did David say to Saul when he'd given him what he thought was the solution to David's problem the moment he resolved to fight Goliath? He said "I can't move with all of this stuff on me" - a classic response from someone who was not trained nor equipped to be able to handle the armour that Saul expected him to need.

Do you see, yet, why I've quoted the song I did at the beginning of this week's belated post?

No? Okay, let's continue.

In Saul's mind, the only way that David would be able to defeat the monster Goliath would be to meet him exactly as any soldier would; in full dress!

But what's quite shocking, and surprising, is that David had other ideas, he went with what he knew: -
Then David took his shepherd’s staff, selected five smooth stones from the brook, and put them in the pocket of his shepherd’s pack, and with his sling in his hand approached Goliath. 1 Samuel 17:40 (MSG)
In other words, to David, he knew that all he had to do was to go armed with what he was used to in order to succeed!

He knew that all he had to do was to bring what he could to the table and any shortfall would be made up for in abundance by God!

What was it the Apostle Paul said in Philippians 4:19?
You can be sure that God will take care of everything you need, his generosity exceeding even yours in the glory that pours from Jesus. Our God and Father abounds in glory that just pours out into eternity. Yes.
See? Even David got that much because to him, God was all he needed for protection. Yes he would go on to make mistakes just like we all do, but the point is that he knew that all he had to do was come armed with what he had and God would do the rest.

Final Thought

The problem for Saul was that he was looking with his natural eyes at what was in front of them and tried his best to come up with a solution that didn't fit God's plan.

He wanted to, inadvertently, make David his puppet and have him dress like a proverbial soldier and, in a sense, dance to a soldier's tune.

But he wasn't a soldier, was he? He was nothing more than a shepherd boy, a shepherd boy with a difference!

God must have been so proud when David said that his armour was something that he was not used to and then went out and got the tools he already was gifted with in order to do God's will!

No wonder He called him 'a man after My own heart'!

So, with that being said, let's take a moment next time we are tempted to come up with a solution to our problems, to take them to the cross and ask God if it aligns with how He plans on moving.

If it doesn't, you can save yourself a whole world of trouble just by letting go and letting God do!

Watch the skies!
