Well, I've just finished watching Immortals and, again, I'm struck by how it captivated me the first time around.
Seeing Henry Cavill (who would of course go on to play the Man of Steel himself a few years later) as Theseus, the way he took the role and made it his own, was to me a sign of what was seen in him during his time on The Tudors; a versatile actor who would become whatever role he was given...
Graphically this too was another excellent affair and the way the demons dissolved as the gods came to earth to clean up was worthy of a better reception than I believe it got at the cinema at the time of release. This seems to be atypical of a lot of people these days; an expectation for all films to be excellent no matter what, when it's more about buying into the director's vision than it is (or than it should be, in my opinion) about making sure that the fanboys and girls (when it's a popular franchise of course!) are appeased... seriously? Get over yourself and buy into it more!
I've already made known that I think Cavill more than holds his own with the veteran Mickey Rourke at the End as the tension between the two of them crackled and built up throughout the film.
I, for one, hope there'll be plenty more roles for both Cavill and Rourke in the future as neither one deserves to be omitted.
Final Score
I've definitely come right side up since weekend with my film choices after recently scoring the excellent Hunger Games a five star rating, something I don't often do because I'm more interested in the stories that films tell than I am seeing thousands of things flying across the screen, a la Michael Bay.
So, again, here's another top star rating:-
Make whatever you will of both my ratings, I simply don't care because I thoroughly enjoyed both films and have a third review on its way tomorrow; Dawn of the Dragon Slayer.
Man, does it feel good to flex my reviewer's muscle after such a long time away from doing this!
Peace out!
