Oh Ye Of Little Faith - If God SAYS It, He WILL Do It!

Do not come any closer," God said. "Take of your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground." Exodus 3:5 (NIV)

I've backed up slightly from this week's reading in episode 40 because I want to get across a point that I think needs making right away.

God spoke to Moses through a burning bush and the first thing that Moses noticed was that the bush was not being consumed as the conflagration enveloped it.

But why was God saying "the place where you are standing is holy ground"...?

Because wherever God is becomes holy ground the moment He shows up on the scene!

Wherever God Is, There Too Be Holiness!

Now here's a concept to get your head around, if God is omnipresent (ED - meaning God is everywhere), omnipotent (ED - all powerful) and omniscient (ED - all knowing), then is there a place where man could theoretically stand and it wouldn't be holy?
Answer: No.
Because wherever God is, there also is holiness!

So it's intriguing that the moment God asks something of Moses is the very moment that Moses implies that God must be mistaken in choosing him to lead the Israelites out of Egypt.

Does God ever make mistakes?
Answer: Again, no.
So if God doesn't make mistakes and holiness is wherever He is, then what does that say about us and our role in today's society?

It says simply that when God chooses us, He's already got a plan for how we are going to succeed in His Name. Additionally, it says that we will be made holy in the moment that we come into agreement with Him and His plan, accepting Him as our Lord and Saviour.

For instance, let me say that I've been told by God to join my church's creative team, which I have...

Then let me say that I'm currently going through a period of intense stretching because I'm feeling completely out of my depth here and not just because of the wonderful young woman I'm currently crushing on.

What does that mean then for what I'm going through?

It means that I have somehow got to overcome the personal issues I've got about being obvious that I like this person whilst trying to plug in creatively.

Why? Chances are... no, no, wait... FACTS are, that it will be a far greater place than this where God is taking me!

Give Me Facts, Not Opinions

I say "facts" because God has a funny habit of leaving you better off when He gets involved with your life.

Why? Come on, we've been over and over this, but alright, I'll put in one more verse: -
Meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting, God’s Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don’t know how or what to pray, it doesn’t matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans. He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our pregnant condition, and keeps us present before God. That’s why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good. Romans 8:26-28 (MSG)
Sure, I might be struggling with my own personal doubts because I feel utterly silly to the point of embarrassment as I can't even find the confidence nor the words to approach this person I like so much. The point is, like I told my friend Matt on Thursday, I firmly believe that all of this... all of this is going to work out for my good in the end!

So, in the end, my crush being allowed to stay around for as long as it is, means that God is using it to work out something amazing for me, not just involving my search for a girlfriend.

To get back to the reading this week, imagine you are Moses and God tells you that you're going to do something amazing, isn't it only natural for you to say "whoa, whoa, whoa, now let me tell you on all these levels why You are wrong, God!"?

Yes it is only natural, but it's not right and shall I tell you why?
Answer: Because God told you to do it in the first place and if God tells you to do something, then you can bet your entire life on it that it will lead you to a far greater place than that which you find yourself in today!

Final Thought

So with that being said, Moses was about to find out that making excuses with God just was not going to cut it this time!

Find out next week, as our "More Than Enough" series continues to gain momentum and we'll see what God said in response to Moses' first objection!

Watch the skies!
