Then God said, "Let the waters beneath the sky flow together into one place, so dry ground may appear." And that is what happened... Genesis 1:9 (NLT) emphasis added
Here we are, day three, so let's see what I can bring out today.
As always, if you haven't caught up on the previous devotional, then let me encourage you to go here to check it out.
Last time out, I suggested that the beginnings of an atmosphere were starting to form as the detail behind God's simple command "let there be..." started to unfold even greater glories as the earth begins to take shape.
The Oceans Drained Reveals Far Greater Secrets
A while ago I watched a brilliant documentary called "Drain the Oceans" and in it, using computer-generated imagery, an accurate picture was produced of what the earth actually looks like if the oceans were drained of all their water.
In it, the presenter, I think it was Richard Hammond (ED - No, it was actually Avery Brooks narrating!), provided us with some interesting facts such as the highest 'mountain' underwater was actually considerably taller than the highest mountain above ground.
Straight away that proves that the earth has, obviously, many peaks and troughs that descend far below even where the eye can see. So to me, when 'new' species are discovered, it is a sign from God saying that the moment we look hard enough in new places, we see signs of creation that He placed there in the beginning.
The same goes with space, the harder and in more detail the telescopes of man look, the more they reveal what is already there in the first place from the dawn of time.
Bombshell Time - A Circle Only Has Two Sides
Now, back to our reading, verse 11 raises an interesting distinction and is God starting something far bigger: -
What if I suggest to you that it is actually here the circle of life began, and not when the first living creatures began to populate the earth?"Then God said, "Let the land sprout with vegetation - every sort of seed-bearing plant, and trees that grow seed-bearing fruit. These seeds will then produce the kinds of plants and trees from which they came." Genesis 1:11 (NLT) emphasis added
Think about it for a moment; if God's plan was to create a perfect world and then exist by the side of both man and woman, then surely here is the point in which He decides that life should be continuous and ongoing.
If a seed has to die before the proceeding fruit can be 'born', as it were, then what of procreation? The sperm of man, enters the egg of woman et voilĂ ; baby is born.
Either way, in both cases it is decided that life should continue and not die out after one generation.
Final Thought
So the miracle that is life as we know it is starting to take shape now as we see just how much detail God has placed in His plan for creation and all this before the fall!
Watch the skies!
