Hey everyone!
I felt challenged by the last part of this trifecta of postings on leadership that I thought I'd use one more post to wrap things up.
We've talked about the power in leadership, the direction of it so now I'm going to look at what happens the moment that you focus your leadership or speciality in one particular area...
Get Rhythm
I've said this before, that when you get passionate about something, it becomes all that you can talk about. For a lot of men, you get them talking about football and they'll talk to you non-stop about it; who their favourite team is, who their favourite player is, what they thought of the game over the weekend.
Not me!
I used to be interested in football, as some of my earlier posts on here will attest to, but now I've just lost complete interest in it.
Now I could say two of the things that I'm passionate about that you would get me talking all day long about; God & then my crush in that order.
Instead, I want to completely change the subject and ask what happens when you set yourself a goal in life: -
- Do you aim as high as you can so that if you don't reach it, you'll at least hit something near it on the way down?; or
- Do you start with all good intentions, but then give up halfway through?
For example, I'm sponsoring a child from Mexico as part of the CompassionUK project. I have been now for a long time and realised that there were plenty of other things that I would give up before I would sacrifice the money that I am sending to help him and his family get to know God better.
The moment that you have something to focus on is the moment that you get out of bed in the morning on those days when you feel like you are not a winner and have only defeat on your mind. It is the part of your mind that says that you are going to get up because thoughts of defeat are not going to keep you from achieving your dreams today. It is that part of your mind that knows that you've got something you are not looking forward to today, but will push through it anyway.
In focusing on that one thing, you will soon find yourself in a position where you've made progress and you might not have seen it either happening or even coming. That is when God gets involved because if you can push through those dark days, you can make it through to the other side to the ones that are even greater than your present ones.
Like me, for instance, I know that it is on the cards that one day I'll fall in love with the most amazing young lady. One day I'll get married. One day I'll have kids. One day I'll enter into a new season of ministry like never before.
Until then, I have to keep reminding myself of those days that are still ahead so that, when I do sink down because I'm not capturing my thoughts properly as Scripture says that I am to do (2 Corinthians 10:5) and replacing them with thoughts that are right & true (Philippians 4:8), I do not give up and fall short before my time runs out.
Final Thought
I could write so much more about leadership because it is a subject that there is never enough material to learn from, but I'm calling it here as I'm due to go round to my parents' house for tea shortly.
In short, then, if you are a leader, make sure you have something worthwhile that you and your team are focusing upon. If you are not a leader, there is no reason that you cannot lead by example of how you live out your life today.
I'm not ashamed of all the things that I've written on here and I've been told recently that being so incredibly transparent would be quite scary for someone else to write as openly as I have done.
That was all I wanted, dudes, that was what I always wanted.
I wanted you, the reader, to see that I've got issues too, but I'm: -
- working through them with Christ as my Source; and
- not letting them define who I am becoming
Peace!
