Wasting Time With Mind Games

Whassup bro's!

As I edge ever closer to smashing my target of 17 in 25 on this here blog, I think to myself (no, not 'what a wonderful world' lolz!) 'what will I do when all is said and done and I've achieved this target?' and the answer comes back to what I always do best; being me!

Yeah, but 'how does that affect the postings I'll be putting up here?' you may or may not be thinking (and really, I don't care either way, lol!) and I can swiftly answer that by saying that nothing's gonna change, this isn't gonna fall by the wayside as life drags me along for the ride of my life. The posts won't change, just as I don't change.

Take today's post, for example, I was going to leave it until tonight so that I could review the Montenegro vs. England match...

But then I thought today 'why bother!'.

Yes, this antipathy towards one's national team could be misconstrued/misunderstood of being unpatriotic when that couldn't be further from the truth... I'd just care more about their performances when they play if they actually played what they're paid instead of letting pre-match mindgames get the better of them!

If you're spending your time letting things go to press that state you 'won't make the same mistakes you made the last time you faced them' then the battle's already half lost because you're looking back not forth!

It is little wonder that your opponent responds they way they do as an impressive looking Montenegro side (currently top of Group H, deservedly so imo) that sees those comments and realises they've already, like a boxer, got their opponent on the ropes and they haven't even stepped ONTO THE PITCH!!!

I mean, why make excuses before the game has even been played?! What is the point of that except drum into the defeatist aspect of the section of English public that have to be told what to think that England "may, just may, get beat tonight so brace yourselves..." (why do you think we've only one star on our jersey from all the way back in '66?!).

WHAT KIND OF ATTITUDE IS THAT?!

Whoever we face, we say 'we're gonna make this the game of our lives' and go out there with a positive attitude for once! Start positive, play positive and the results surely will follow...

That's why they don't succeed in penalty shootouts as much as they should because if they're too busy looking at what happened last time they failed a shootout (which invariably is England's majority method of getting knocked out of tournaments!), how in the hell is that gonna help get ready for the next one (save defeat an already defeatist attitude before it's even been defeated!)?

Some govern their life around when their international/club team is playing and, let me say, I used to be like that... then I grew up! I got a life!

I understood that life is full of setbacks, you just cannot let them guide your future when they're the baggage of your past, nothing more!

Until that attitude changes/is broken, then England can (and likely will!) continue to underachieve...

What I'm not interested in is what people think of my attitude over this current rant (it's my blog anyways, don't like it, don't read it! :P), because it's a long held opinion of mine since France '98 (so no one can say it doesn't have history, and with good reason too!).

It maybe worthwhile to tune in, folks, to see if England can put their fears to one side for 90 minutes to take over top spot tonight (if only cause there's jack all else on tonight!).

Me? I see that this will ultimately determine where they finish in the group, I'm just hoping they don't bottle it when it comes down to the crunch like they have done so many times before (in "3 Lions" why do you think they wrote all those 'years of hurt' other than bottling it on the night when it counts?!)!

See? It "pays to be Roode"!

Peace out!
